Summer Internship Program
Reports from our Summer Interns 10/8/09 Diane Weeks writes: Dear All: Email from Elsie M. Sheidler, Associate Director, Pace Center, Princeton University It is with great pleasure that I write this email, reporting on the successful outcomes of the summer 2009 internships, generously funded by the Class of 1975, and requesting approval on a proposal to implement the summer 2010 internship program.
Intern final write-ups and public presentations
All of the interns, except for Daniel Rauch (who was very sick), gave thorough and thoughtful 5-minute oral presentations (followed by Q & A), to other interns and interested students on Wednesday, September 30, 2009. In addition, all 5 interns wrote and submitted a short write-up, recapping their internship experience for other interested students. A copy of their write-ups is attached for your review. (These write-ups will be edited by Pace and posted on the Pace website for students interested in learning more about the ’75 internships.)
Note: Daniel Rauch offered to give his public presentation when he was feeling better, but instead we asked him to represent the ’75 program on a student-focused panel featured at a summer internship information session scheduled for Friday, November 20, 2009.
Final evaluations
The 5 interns and 4 supervisors/’75 sponsors were asked to complete an evaluative survey after the internships ended. All 5 interns completed and submitted an evaluation, as did 1 supervisor/’75er, Judge Pollak. These evaluations are attached for your review.
Proposal for 2010
Attached is a proposal for summer 2010, including two options for your consideration in implementing the funds in support of next summer’s program. Given the feedback from this year’s students and those supervisors we heard from - both David Offensend (by phone via a staff person) and Genevieve Muinzer (via an email) shared their interest in having an intern again next summer – we strongly recommend having internships again at all 4 organizations/Chambers.
Note: We are suggesting an additional award in the form of an extra cost-of-living stipend to the students placed in the NYC internships, as all of them vocalized their concerns about the high cost of living.
We would like to contact internship sites next week to start the process of obtaining internship position descriptions. Please let me know if you have any questions or comments to share after reviewing this information. Please advise on which option (how many placements and where) you would like Pace to pursue for summer 2010.
With kind regards, Elsie Elsie M.
Sheidler
