“Five Perspectives: Current Trends in Psychiatry/Psychotherapy Practice”

It is increasingly recognized that mental health is critical for overall health and well-being. We are very fortunate to have among our classmates leading practitioners of a variety of psychological treatments, including psychoanalysis, psychotherapy, and psychiatry.

Our panelists include:

Phillip Freeman, MD '75, psychiatrist and psychoanalyst in private practice in Boston, MA. He will offer his perspective on clinical trends in mental health treatment, and the circumstances in which in-depth psychological work proves particularly useful.
Elizabeth Blee Fritsch, PhD '75 psychologist and psychoanalyst in practice in McLean, Virginia and the Director of the SPRING Project, a community outreach initiative focused on maternal mental health. She will discuss the urgency and efficacy of treatment for women struggling with postpartum emotional adjustment.
Anthony Rothschild, MD '75 psychiatrist and Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He will speak about his work in the esketamine clinical trials that led to FDA approval and his current study of the psychedelic psilocybin with concomitant psychotherapy for treatment resistant depression.
Jeffrey Rubin, PhD '75 practices psychoanalysis and psychoanalytically oriented therapy in New York City and North Salem NY and is a Sensai in the Zen Tradition. He will explore meditative psychoanalysis which blends the best aspects of Western psychoanalysis and Eastern meditative traditions into a more encompassing synthesis.
William Watson, PhD '75 psychologist and Associate Professor of Psychiatry (Psychology) and Neurology at the University of Rochester Medical Center. He will speak about his emotion-focused work in Neurology with psychosomatic patients, and the role of emotions in physical and emotional health.
