50th Reunion Service Event

Reunions Service Event: OUR KIDS READ

The Class of 1975 and the APGA has teamed up with Our Kids Read, a Tiger-led non-profit, to bring a day of literacy-filled activities to students from a local Trenton middle school.

Service event activities include:

  • Bringing a group of 40 students from Trenton to Princeton's campus on the first day of reunions, Thursday, May 22
  • Accompanying the students on an Orange Key tour of Princeton's campus
  • Participating in literacy activities at the Cotsen Children's Library in Firestone
  • A book giveaway where students receive 10 free books each, along with a backpack full of Princeton swag
  • Small group activities with our class and the APGA, including journaling about your favorite poem or passage from a book
Background about Our Kids Read:

Our Kids Read is a 501(c)(3) Tiger-led non-profit formed in 2019 formed by Jahmal Lake '98. Board members include members of the Class of 1979, 1982, 1998 and 1999. The mission of the organization is to spark the joy of reading in K-5th grade students in low-income communities. The organization has given away over $1M worth of children's books over the last few years and administers a 1:1 literacy-focused virtual mentorship program that matches corporate volunteers with these same students.
